FILM FESTIVAL STUDIES
Hot on the heels of what was hands down my favorite magazine volume on cinema in 2008—Film International Vol. 6, No. 5, guest edited by Dina Iordonova (I think I bought every existing copy they had at Borders to distribute among friends)—Iordonova has called attention to a very useful annotated bibliography on scholarship related to Film Festivals that has been made available by Marijke de Valck and Skadi Loist at the web-site of the University of Hamburg in Germany, available here. It warrants repeated notice for being such an amazingly rich resource of articles and—perhaps even more importantly—a great exposure to their authors. I've been Googling these names to familiarize myself with their work and the research is producing a cornucopia of film writing available online. It has caused me to consider, however, that the nascent field of Film Festival studies does not seem as pronounced in the United States. Is anyone perhaps aware of academic programs in the Bay Area that specifically focus on Film Festival studies? I would be interested to know. (Via the ever-resourceful Daily @ IFC.)
