TIFF 2010—My Own Private Microfestival

Due to the late announcements this year, I just didn't have time to work up all my program-oriented research notes. Visions, Contemporary World Cinema and Real to Reel eluded me; but, truth is, it's the combination Public and P&I schedule that truly determines the availability of my choices anyway. The following screening schedule is, of course, a work-in-progress attempting to incorporate Diana Sanchez's programming of Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese cinemas, a sampling of the City to City spotlight on Istanbul, genre-juicy fare from Colin Geddes in both his Midnight Madness and Vanguard sidebars, and some of Dimitri Eipedes' recommendations from Eastern Europe thrown in for good measure. And yes, shockingly, even a red carpet event or two! But it's always subject to change contingent upon recommendations from colleagues, vagaries in weather, physical exhaustion and whether or not my sweet tooth can resist the occasional apple crumble pie from the Queen Mother Cafe, savored in the respite of warm sunshine and fresh air.

I'm overwhelmed just reading your list. Those little cans of Starbuck's Doubleshot expressos are sometimes handy for sneaking in, inside a jacket pocket, for a quick "pick me up". Looking forward to reading your TIFF dispatches.

Well, it's more a wish list than anything. We'll see how much actually gets done after I've shaved off one film or another to pursue an interview or an enticing piece of pie.

I really liked the films that I've already seen: NOSTALGIA FOR THE LIGHT, OCTOBER, UNCLE BOONMEE, HOW I ENDED THIS SUMMER and 10 TO 11.

Hey luKe, that's great to know! Have you written about them anywhere?

Hi Michael,
